Aurora Ocampo, MA, RN, CS

Ms. Ocampo is a trained and experienced practitioner of complementary modalities including biofeedback, Therapeutic touch, and Reiki. She is also certified in clinical imagery and aromatherapy. Ms. Ocampo has studied and worked with well known leaders and expert in these fields including J. Achterberg, PhD (guided imagery), J. Anselmo, holistic nurse consultant (biofeedback), D. Krieger, Ph.D. (therapeutic touch), R.J. Buckle, PhD candidate (aromatherapy), B. & R. Schwab (clinical imagery).

Through her active involvement in holistic nursing practice, she was instrumental in introducing and integrating these healing modalities in Beth Israel Medical Center, NY by offering training programs and providing direct patient care. She strongly believes that these healing techniques which utilize the body/mind/spirit, strengthen the body’s innate capacity to heal and thus enhance its response to the conventional methods of treatment. In her role as the clinical nurse specialist in the surgical nursing division of Beth Israel Medical Center, Ms. Ocampo began to incorporate these healing practices into relaxation group sessions for patients and the nursing staff with the belief that supporting and nurturing them in this way is one of the best ways to provide the highest quality of care of the patients.

She has done numerous lectures, presentation and workshops in self-care utilizing these complementary therapies to promote health maintenance and disease prevention. Ms. Ocampo has been featured in several television programs: CBS’s Dan Rather Evening News featuring the Holistic Surgery Program, a collaborative initiative between Surgical Services at Beth Israel Medical Center and the Center for Health and Healing designed to support and assist patients through the surgical experience; CNN’s “News from Medicine on Humanistic Care”; and CNBC’s “Alive and Wellness ” hosted by Carol Martin demonstrating biofeedback and imagery in pain management.
