Alexander learned that how the body is used (the way you move and carry yourself) determines how the body functions, and that this can be brought under conscious control. Through a series of lessons, the student is involved in a dual process of unlearning detrimental movement patterns and learning to enhance good use of the body. The awareness of the positioning and movement of the parts of the body in combination with the practice of verbal suggestions can lead to a new integration of the parts into the whole over time.
