Biofeedback is a powerful, safe therapy that teaches how to regulate mental and bodily functions to improve overall physical and psychological health. It can be just as effective using simple hand-held instruments as hookups with complex computer programs the same principles of self-observation, regulation, and mastery apply. It works well with psychotherapy because it helps bring into awareness unconscious thoughts and feelings that get expressed through the body, leading to potentially maladaptive ways of being and relating. As a therapeutic tool, biofeedback can provide a deeper level of self-understanding and control.
