Different Theories on How it Works
Exactly how Reiki works is still under investigation. Some practitioners liken Reiki in part to therapies like acupuncture, shiatsu or acupressure that stimulate the flow of energy in the body to promote wellness. Others believe that in addition to the flow of energy channeled through the practitioner to the patient during a healing session, the presence of love and compassion and the achievement of a deep level of relaxation may also contribute to the patients healing.
Conditions it Works Best For
Scientific clinical research on the therapeutic effect of Reiki is still in its beginning and there is not yet enough evidence documenting its effectiveness for any particular health condition. Anecdotally, however, Reiki has been helpful in treating a wide range of health issues. It has been used to address a variety of problems on a physical, mental and emotional level as well as for stress management. Reiki should always be used as an adjunctive therapy and should not replace conventional medications or treatments.
