Trager Approach — Treatment Approaches

The Trager® Approach consists of two interrelated movement lessons: the table work and Mentastics®.

The table work lays the foundation for learning new movement patterns. In these sessions the practitioner moves the client’s body in such a way as to suggest the feeling of movement without effort, communicating qualities such as ease, lightness, freedom and flow.

Mentastics® are gentle, effortless and playful movements that re-enforce the learning from the table work. This tool helps the client recall and deepen the new movement patterns experienced during the a session. Mentastics® are intended to become a part of the client’s way of life. They can be used often throughout the day to release tension and avoid the build up of stress, bringing one back to a “neutral position” physically, mentally and emotionally. Or just a moment of recall, asking oneself “how did it feel on the table? or “what could be freer or easier”? can change how one experiences a situation and responds to it. Mentastics® are a reminder and exploration of “what could be easier or freer” in one’s body and in one’s approach to life. They are taught both in private sessions and in group classes.
