Description of a Session
A Yoga session generally consists of postures, stretching and movement; guided relaxation; deep breathing techniques; and meditation. All of these elements can be adapted to the individual so that anyone can practice yoga and receive the full benefit regardless of age, physical ability or level of flexibility. Typically, a Yoga session is 1 to 1 1/2 hours long.
Course of Treatment
While benefits of Yoga are experienced even after one session, the effects are cumulative. Eight to twelve weekly sessions make a good introduction to Yoga. However, the greatest benefit is achieved by practicing consistently over a long period of time. Rather than a time-limited therapy, Yoga is a practice to incorporate into daily life.
Side Effects
When properly performed Yoga is very safe. It is beneficial to learn Yoga from an experienced teacher so that so maximum benefits can be achieved within a safe and appropriate range of movement for each individual.
Safety Issues

Other Modalities That Work Well with Yoga
If you are planning to do Yoga in combination with other modalities, speak to all your providers to find out if they believe the different therapies will work well together. No other healing modality is contraindicated if you are practicing Yoga.
